The remarkable story of the Vietnam Wall comes to the screen in this documentary celebrating the courage and memories of the soldiers who gave their lives while fighting the most controversial war of the 20th Century. In 1979, decorated Vietnam veteran Jan Scruggs had a vision to erect a Vietnam memorial in Washington, D.C. The idea was initially met with opposition and cynicism, and when Yale undergraduate Maya Lin's proposition of an etched granite wall was declared a black gash of shame the project nearly died on the vine. At the turn of the 21st Century, however, the Vietnam Wall stood as one of the most visited memorials in all of Washington, D.C. Each year, millions of mourners come to the Vietnam Wall to pay tribute to the 58,195 soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and heal the wounds that have remained tender for more than three decades.
